Frequently Asked Questions

Q. There are occasions where I would like to cut and paste Chinalaw exchanges and share with law students in classes here. For example, the discussion about a month ago about the value (or not) of LLM (and related questions about admission to US schools and bar) are about a topic of great interest to students -- with too little really good insight available. The discussion about the property law is another example.

A: Chinalaw is an open list that anyone can join, and anyone can access the archives by joining the list. Thus, discussions are completely public, and I don't think those who post have any actual expectation of confidentiality (let alone a reasonable one). They know they are posting to several hundred strangers. Thus, it is perfectly acceptable to reproduce discussions for your students. (April 13, 2006)
